Ridgeview Bariatric & Weight Loss Center now open
WACONIA, Minn.—May 5, 2011—The new Ridgeview Bariatric & Weight Loss Center is now open at Two Twelve Medical Center, 111 Hundertmark Road, Chaska.
Under the direction of bariatric surgeons Edmund Chute, MD, FACS, and Raymond Drew, MD, FACS, Ridgeview Bariatric & Weight Loss Center offers a multidisciplinary team and comprehensive program dedicated to successful weight loss and long-term weight management. “Obesity is an epidemic, and an underlying cause of many significant health issuesespecially diabetes—and it shortens life span," said Dr. Chute.
“Our new Center is a great option for many people who want and need to treat their obesity but don’t want to drive a long distance,” he said. “Working with their primary care provider, patients and their families can access all of the weight loss resources—including weight loss surgery evaluation—exercise and nutrition recommendations, and support they need right here.”
According to Dr. Chute, weight loss surgery—combined with a lifelong program of diet, exercise and medications—is the most successful treatment for obesity. For those who are struggling with obesity, Dr. Chute recommends discussing “your health with your physician, and then attending a weight loss seminar to determine options.”
Free weight loss surgery seminars have been available at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia since May 2010 and are now also held at Two Twelve Medical Center in Chaska. Attendees receive information about current surgical options, benefits and limitations of weight loss surgery, and lifestyle and behavior changes associated with the surgery. Seminars are held the second Wednesday of each month, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Ridgeview’s Community Auditorium (500 S. Maple Street, Waconia), and on the first Wednesday and third Thursday of each month, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., in the third-floor conference room at Two Twelve Medical Center (111 Hundertmark Road, Chaska).
A Bariatric Support Group also meets in the third-floor conference room at Two Twelve Medical Center on the first Tuesday and third Monday of each month, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For more information and schedule details, call (952) 442-7820 or visit www.ridgeviewmedical.org/bariatric.
Ridgeview uses innovative technology to help reduce radiation dose in CT scanning
When Ridgeview Medical Center upgraded its CT (computed tomography) technology in 2008, it purchased two systems that allow Ridgeview to perform both advanced imaging for its angiography procedures and basic imaging for its interventional and therapy planning cases. Ridgeview introduced a Siemens 40-slice unit and a 128-slice scanner, which has revolutionized diagnosis in cardiology, oncology and other specialties.
In 2009, Ridgeview went a step further by enhancing its CT scanning capabilities with innovative software made available by Siemens Healthcare. IRIS (Iterative Reconstruction in Image Space) allows the radiologist to reduce radiation dose by up to 60 percent with minimum compromise to image quality. "By reducing image noise, it is possible for significant dose reduction while still producing high-quality images," said Kulin Hemani, VP Computed Tomography, Siemens Healthcare USA.
"Dose is a concern of Ridgeview's referring physicians. Many, particularly those with pediatric patients, inquire about our equipment and we are pleased to provide radiation dose management with our CT scanner," says Cindy Steenstra, director of Ridgeview's Imaging Services. "Assuring them that Ridgeview's CT systems have dose-saving features, including IRIS, alleviates many concerns. Additionally, because of the high-quality images, our radiologist can give a more definitive diagnosis and reduce the need for additional imaging."
Last year, Ridgeview Medical Center provided nearly 50,000 exams and imaging procedures, which will continue to grow significantly with the opening of a second imaging center at Two Twelve Medical Center in Chaska.
